Today I had the opportunity to talk to a Calexico resident and local small business owner Jesus Gallardo. The pandemic has been hard for a lot of our small business owners not only in Calexico but all across the country. As city and county officials struggle to get information and help out to people sometimes business owners feel like they are left hanging specially during a pandemic. A lot of small business owners often turn to their local chamber of commerce for help. One the main duties for a chamber of commerce is to help it’s members with any business related questions they might have, like for example applying for PPP loans or other federal loans and grants that might be out there. Unfortunately the Calexico Chamber of Commerce is closed and it to be hones it closed in the worse time. But even before the Calexico Chamber of Commerce closed it’s doors some of it’s members were not too happy with it’s services. Jesus was one of those members and back in 2018 he first came up with the idea of starting an independent chamber of commerce. For a while he put the idea/project on the back burner because he needed to invest more time on his own ventures. In recent months he brought the idea back to life and invested time, effort and money because he knows there’s a huge need for a chamber of commerce to help out our local businesses get through these rough time and beyond.
